Sorry for the horrible pics, still have a broken worthless camera...

So I took Amy up to the dyno shop today. It is a dyno dynamics.I last ran on a dynojet in April 2008, made 155whp and 175ft/lbs

We started the day at 152.5whp and 175ft/lbs, pretty much the same #s I saw on the dynojet in April '08. Still running a little rich, despite the fact I had already leaned the afm back one notch a few days ago.

Leaned the afm back 2 more clicks, gained more hp, to 161hp. Leaned it out even 2 more clicks and advanced the timing just slightly more (16BTDC from 14BTDC) and made 164.5whp and 188ft/lbs

After 4700rpms, tuning the AFM is useless, it falls back into the same rich mode regardless.

For those who are unaware, this dyno was on a 7500mile 6MGE, bored .030" over with an intake, header, exhaust. The cam timing is stock, the cams are stock, the head has NOT been ported, stock throttle body, no power steering drag

So I gained roughly 12hp and 13ft/lbs by LEANING the afm out... :)

Tanya, MAFT-Pro, and go speed density. You'll make more power being able to actually control the WOT AFR +4700rpm, AND get rid of the AFM restriction ;)

Not yet.... not ready for that shit yet. I am trying to do the MOST I possibly can without having to get into crazy electronics. I built this car with $1500 and am trying to keep the financials down as much as possible.

I still have at least one more thing, adjust the cams. I was going to do that today, but my brain farted on me. 3 degrees advance on intake and retard on exhaust for overlap should help a little bit.

Tanya - You're referring to the idle mixture adjusting screw on the vane type AFM, is that correct?
Which way did you turn it for "lean"?

WAT?

No, I popped the black cap off, and took a phillips head screw loose and turned the wheel 5 clicks total clockwise

There is another screw beneath an aluminum cap that can be used to adjust the air bypass on the vane type AFM. It is really only useful at idle. I thought you may have meant this screw...from your pic, that is not the case.

Got one on the Cressida's 5M and my truck R22 TB's as well...the TB screw is for idle speed. The one under the round aluminum cap on this type AFM is for idle mixture. Turn it counterclockwise, it allows more air to bypass the vane and leans idle mixture. Like I said, it's not the one you showed in your pic.

ah ok, gotcha. Maybe I should turn it the other way to richen a tad, since my idle is about 15.5 now...hehe

tune to 4700rpms only, lol after that... it just does what it wants to do anyway. Perhaps it's the 6M ECU making it run that rich on the top end, I am unsure. Idont really care to dyno with a 5M ECu to find out

6M ecu is supposed to have a different fuel map, richer, supposedly due to jdm cars not having EGRs

i honestly dont know if there's any truth to this, i tried to test the theory last year doing readings with a wideband but was getting erratic results

lol, I am still missing out on a few ponies by leaving the stock cam timing. I need to get back up there again when I have cash and adjust -3 and +3 degrees, maybe i can break 170whp and 190 ft/lbs ;x

Well done.

On a side note, I burned a stocky style composite gasket by going too lean doing the same thing.

Jdub, that wound clock spring is the resistance for the flapper door. Tightening it makes it harder to open, so the ECU thinks not as much air is entering as really is. A great mod for GE cars with a dyno like she did.

Well, I was told to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and lower my fuel pressure down (j-tube has long since been bypassed) and re-tune the afm to get the afrs better in check.

So I bought a knockoff and I'll be sending it off to my ex, he's going to send me the lines i need to install
